Peter admonishes believers to “make their calling sure”. Read 2 Peter 1:10-11 Therefore my brothers, (and sisters) be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Which of the following responses best describe your initial answer to God’s calling on your life?
1. I’m sorry, I think You have the wrong number!
2. So glad You called; perfect timing!
3. Can I get back with You when I’m not so busy?
4. Good to hear from You! What do You want me to do?
We are not talking about salvation here, but rather the calling you received after choosing to accept Christ as Savior. Do you feel that you had some type of divine calling on your life that brought you to this point? Here are four possible descriptions of a ‘calling’. Which one do you identify with most?
1. A Specific calling: a very distinct call to ministry. Perhaps from a young girl, you knew or you wanted to be a pastors wife.
2. A General calling: you felt called to serve the Lord and were willing to do so, but didn’t necessarily know the direction it would take.
3. A unexpected calling: did you feel surprised by the call to ministry? You may have married your husband when he was in another vocation but felt a call to ministry. You hadn’t planned on being a pastors wife, but you accept this new position willingly.
4. An impersonal calling: you see the ministry as your husband’s job. This call does not apply to you. Perhaps you even resist the concept of being a pastors wife.
On a personal note, I would have to identify with “A Specific” calling. I was drawn to the local church even as a young girl and I longed to be a pastors wife. I believe it was God that placed that longing in my heart. But what about you? Share with us how you feel about your ‘calling’ to the ministry.
Just go down to ’comment’ below and add your thoughts. Thanks and many blessings on you this month.

I would say I had a “General” calling…I knew I would be involved in ministry (fulltime or otherwise), but I didn’t know I would be married to a pastor! Although, in grade 10 I did an English assignment and I had to write about what I thought I would be doing in 10 years…ironically enough, I said that I would be married to a youth pastor!
Our calling into ministry was an unexpected, surprising and exciting calling.
My husband felt the call to ministry.
It was not my plan to be a pastors wife, but I am excited and willing to be the helper and support God has called me to be for him.
for me it was an unexpected calling. I never expected to be a pastor’s wife but was willing to follow my husband where ever he felt God called him.
For me it was a surprise, but looking back in my life I can definitely say that God has been preparing me for it
